BareMinerals new tinted gel, claims to bring the best of tinted moisturizers, CC Creams, and BB Creams together in a manner that will provide the ultimate "complexion rescue."
It certainly has some positive attributes and alot going for it, but is it really an all-in-one miracle product?
The Formula:
BareMinerals is taking the same approach they did with their Serum Foundation and has formulated their Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydration Gel without parabans, silicones, fragrance, or oil.
The most important thing about what is lacking from the formula is the fragrance- which is a huge plus. The other ingredients all have a bad reputation and can actually be very beneficial (and necessary) for the majority of skin types.
The omision of these ingredients shouldn't be a problem overall, but it's worth noting that they're not included.
The formula itself is actually very interesting. Initially, the Tinted Hydration Gel is very thick and mousse-like but it's more on the wet side than the dry side (if that makes sense.)
"Gel" is a great way to describe the consistency so BareMinerals gets an A there. The gel is relatively blendable and will absolutely provide sheer to medium coverage, BUT, if you're looking for something that can replace your daily moisturizer than this may not be the answer (unless you have very oily skin and it's summer.)
Performance:
Interestingly enough, the "Tinted Gel Cream" sets more like a gel than a cream. You do have some time to blend the formula into place but once it's there, it won't budge and you'll likely find the finish is more on the matte side than the dewy side.
Because of the matte finish, Complexion Rescue's wear time will generally be far longer than many of it's more-moisturizing counterparts making the Tinted Hydration Gel an ideal choice for anyone who has normal to oily skin.
Shades:
The shade range of Complexion Rescue is impressive for any Tinted Moisturizer or BB Cream and BareMinerals offers a staggering 10 shades which range from fair to deep and cater to multiple undertones.
Those of us with typical fair skin will probably be best off with the lightest shade (#1). Regardless of your skin's undertone it sets in a very neutral manner that will probably look more natural than shade #2 which has strong yellow undertones and is best saved for people with similar skintones.
Overall:
The current cosmetic market has a surplus of BB Creams, CC Creams, and Tinted Moisturizers which all have a similar makeup (pun intended) and generally offer a dewy finish.
It's difficult to find a formula that has a matte finish AND adequate sun protection so in this sense, BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is a very unique product that will fill a serious void in the cosmetics world (and it has the added bonus of being Cruelty Free.)
***Do Note: If you were/are a fan of Mac's Studio Tint Moisturizer SPF 15 which was discontinued last fall, than BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Gel will probably make an excellent (if not the best) substitute.***
