Laura Mercier has just released her full cover, High Coverage Concealer.  It is a very thick, barely liquid concealer which promises full coverage to conceal dark circles, birthmarks, scars, etc. It is also formulated with ingredients which are supposed to help under eye puffiness & its satiny wet formula will "brighten" the undereye area.....
Laura Mercier has decided to follow a trend which has been largely successful thanks to contributions like Tarte Marcuja Creaseless Concealer & It Cosmetics Bye BYE Under Eye Concealer. These concealers are part of a new class of concealers; they usually must be set with powder so in a way we're going back to basics, but in actuality they are very very different.

Emollient & moisturizing liquid concealers have been around for ages. These have a typical liquid consistency present upon application, however, they are not self-setting, meaning that you will need a powder unless you have very dry skin. You can easily identify them a few ways; if you put a drop of the product on the outside of the plastic/glass bottle/tube, it will still be there the next day, unchanged & undried. If you look at the ingredients, the first few are usually moisturizing ingredients as opposed to the  water or silicone listed on traditional silicone or transfer proof formulas. Some popular tried & true formulas include Laura Geller Real Deal Concealer, E.l.f. Maximum Coverage Concealer, and Revlon Colorstay Concealer to name a few.

About five years ago, brands started perfecting the liquid cream concealers. Brands like Hard Candy released their full cover Glamouflage Heavy Duty Concealer which, like Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer & Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, is petroleum based and provides fabulous coverage, but it is in a liquid form making it a sort of hybrid between the two worlds.

Since the cult favorites like It Bye BYE Undereye and Tarte Marcuja Creaseless have emerged. Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer is definitely close to these two but it kind of combines the old with the new in a very unique way.

USES & PERFORMANCE:
Initially, it takes quite a bit of effort to dispense the High Cover Concealer. It's thick! Once you actually get it out of the tube however, it is thick, emollient, and appears as very airy & mousse like, similar to Tartes Full Coverage Foundation (although the two could not be more different.)
It warms up to body temperature and is easily spreadable with out dragging. Blending it into other prodructs like your foundation may be a tad more difficult as it is with It Bye Bye Undereye, however, the impeccable shade range Laura Mercier offers makes up for the blending issue.
The formulas base ingredient is Caprilyc/Triglyceride which is the same as Laura Geller's Real Deal Concealer. Because of this, as the High Coverage Concealer wears it sort of "deflates", losing the aerated moussy quality. it finishes up satiny, but definitely less glossy than Tarte's Marcuja or It Bye BYE- one of the few upper hands it has on the Marcuja Concealer.

I Think the best analogy for the formula is (ironically) probably whipped cream. On oily skin w/out powder, this will undoubtedly crease and liquify like melted whipped cream, however on dry skin, w/out powder, (especially over a drying foundation), this will dry as your skin absorbs the oil, in a manner very similar to how a drop of whipped cream dries on the counter.

Coverage is superb and will undoubtedly conceal even the most severe issues. As for the skincare claims, well, that is generally nothing more than a last minute marketing idea to add a few drops into the ingredients vat. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this on that premise.

Overall, it's worth exploring if you have trouble finding a shade match. if you like Laura Mercier's Secret Concealer you can probably get away with the same shade in the High Cover as they both have 12 well chosen (all be it a bit warm) shades. Note: If you have pink undertones & are fair, you probably won't find a match. #1 appears pink, and is for pink under tones, but it dries more neutral than pink.
