Estee Lauder Double Wear BB Cream; Review & Swatches of Shades

Estee Lauder Double Wear All Day Glow BB Cream,
Moisture Makeup Beauty Balm SPF 35
New for Spring 2014
Price: $38 per ounce

I was somewhat excited about Lauder's newest addition to the Double Wear family with the release of the All Day Glow Moisture Makeup Beauty Balm BB Cream; but I was only somewhat excited. Usually, it's the unsung heros that wow me and the over-hyped products that disappoint so Double Wear All Day Glow BB Cream could swing either way...
Double Wear All Day Moisture Makeup Beauty Balm BB Cream has a few things going for it. (The ridiculously long name isn't one of them). Initially, Double Wear BB is a bit matte like Clinique Moisture Surge, but as you blend it it becomes heavier and more moisturizing (which may translate as greasy for oily skin.) The shade range is impressive with 8 shades to chose from but they do oxidize a bit as the day goes on because this BB baby will set...to a point.

One positive thing is that Estee Lauder chose to leave out the fragrance which is a change of pace from their other BB Cream options like their Daywear BB Cream, so that's nice. Lauder also did include some beneficial ingredients which is also a plus and it does have sufficient UVA AND UVB protection as long as you apply liberally.

The 1 ounce for $38 price tag is a bit steep compared to Clinique Moisture Surge which has a larger range of shades and provides 1.3 ounces for around $30, so if you're dead set on this formula, you may want to check out Clinique's Moisture Surge CC Cream.

All in all, Estee Lauder didn't produce a horrible BB Cream with their Double Wear All Day Glow Moisture Makeup BB Cream, but they fell short of a great creation and split the difference with an O.k. but not spectacular or special BB Cream and I stand by my the comment I made below (before I posted the full review) where I said it's just kind of ehhh.

Laura Geller's BB Cream is a formula which is genuinely lightweight and has a tenacious formula for a BB/CC Cream, or Too Faced's Multi Benefit BB Cream is a fabulous option and both are Cruelty Free.

  1. Did you try wearing this product? And if so, what did you think of the formula? I was initially eager to try this but an 'average' rating from Paula's Choice made me reconsider purchasing it. They weren't sampling this product, so I decided to pass.

    1. I did try wearing it, its similar to Clinique's Moisture Surge CC Cream in that its initially matte-ish, but its trickier to blend than most Lauder company BB's and Its kind of ehhh.

I know I have to get the full review up, I just have so many things to review and there are so many new & exciting things that writing about a new Lauder BB that is really "just another Lauder BB" isnt all that motivating!

In some ways I like it better than the Estee Lauder Daywear BB, but primarily only because its unscented and the shade range is superior. Double Wear BB has a heavier finish which is "tacky" whereas Daywear is more "dewy". I don't know if that makes sense, I feel like I'm trying to compare different types of apples which is probably why I've procrastinated!

Overall, I do agree with Paula's Choice review, its good- not great, and I think that its just too similar to other Lauder CC/BB's from Mac, Benefit, Clinique, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown, and Estee Lauder; the variations are so trivial in some that the only difference is really the shades, but there's only a few basic formulations between all of their options.

If you can get a sample of Smashbox CC, Clinique CC, or Benefit Big Easy (which is the extreme), you can get an idea of what you're in for. I just showed myself that Double Wear is closer to what the other Lauder companies are calling CC Creams- but there's no set consistency.

I think you did well by passing it up. If you want a really solid performing BB, have you tried Too Faced's Multi Benefit Beauty Balm? PC rated it a BEST and I totally agree with that too. You get solid coverage, easy blending, and it lasts all day with a water resistant finish and neutral shades.

Another good drugstore option is Physicians Formula Super BB or CC SPF 30 (NOT the organic one), the BB & CC are pretty similar in almost every way, but their great for light-tan skin tones and have awesome skin care ingredients in them too!

Let me know what you try & what you think!
      Good Luck!
