Because of its name, Wet 'n Wild is always listed towards the end of any alphabetical lists of brand names, but that's no excuse to forget your alphabet! They finally released their first addition to the world of Beauty Balms last fall, with their 8-in-1 Beauty Balm BB Cream SPF 15, but by that point all the other brands had moved on to CC Creams! Well in the end the turtle beats the hare, so maybe, just maybe, Wet 'n Wild was learning from all of the other brands' mistakes so that they could release the most perfect formula of them all, but did they?

Part of Fergie's Center Stage Glammaker Collection, Wet 'n Wild's 8-in-1 Beauty Balm BB Cream promises to deliver 8 perfecting traits hydrates, brightens, evens skin tone, minimizes oil, conceals, enhances, primes and protects.

I'm going to do the unheard of for me, and list the claims one by one;

Hydrates: Yes. Because it is a traditional American BB Cream/Tinted Moisturizer formula with a satin/dewy finish, it most certainly will moisturize your skin.

Brightens: Umm.... It will brighten because it offers some (all be it light) coverage and because of the moisturizing properties, yeah, I'll say it Brightens.

Evens Skin Tone: Well yes, temporarily. (As any good foundation or Tinted Moisturizer with coverage will.)

Minimizes Oil: This is an interesting one for sure. Here's the thing, this is not a matte finish BB Cream. It will not dry your skin out. Minimizes Oil is exactly the opposite of Hydrates so I would say its far more Hydrating than drying. That being said, over drying of skin (via alcohol for example) can cause the pores to over produce oil, so perhaps there is evidence to suggest that hydrating will cause less oil production as well? I don't know, just a theory, so those with oily skin proceed with caution.
Conceals: Yes, to a very limited point, it will conceal issues of redness or sallowness, but for blemishes and/or birthmarks, you will need concealer.

Enhances: This makes me think of a plastic surgery situation which this will not provide, no skincare or cosmetic will.

Primes: Yes. This formula works beautifully under makeup, especially for those with normal-dry skin who like a drying foundation or don't like a drying silicone primer!

Protects: Well, I mean it protects more than a mall security guard with SPF 15, but its alot less than an FBI agent or SPF 50 would provide and the absolute bare minimum thats acceptable before sun exposure.

So there you have it. My official analysis of the 8-in-1 claims made by Wet 'n Wild's Beauty Balm BB Cream. Overall, I think that they fared exceptionally well, especially for $6! I love that they don't try to be anything their not. Its a nice, solid, well formulated, American BB Cream. No, you're not going to get the full coverage you would have with an Asian competitor, but this will beat a good portion of the formulas available in the U.S. market place. In fact, I would say the formula rivals MAC Prep + Prime BB Cream, or any of the other Lauder company CC/BB's like Bobbi Brown, Clinique, or Estee Lauder's versions. The only thing this is lacking would be sufficient sunscreen since those all have SPF's of 30-35, but, for 80% off the price of those, I'll buy another sunscreen thank you very much, and STILL save myself $20!

As for the shades, its available in 5 shades, Light, Light/Medium, Medium, Medium/Deep, Deep. The shades are all neutral. I match Light, but I use it in Light/Medium too. Its a great way to add a sheer wash of color to a pale face!
