Nars Luminous All Day Powder Foundation is intended to be a "lightweight powder foundation with SPF 24 that provides more than 12 hours of humidity-proof, sweat-proof wear."
Housed inside a small, flat square compact, are two compartments. The bottom compartment holds a sponge and in the top side you will find a soft, velvety pressed powder that is an absolute delight to work with. The finely milled powder is absolutely divine and Nars has absolutely earned the right to call All Day Luminous a "modern & lightweight formula," because it truly is a state of the art concoction.
Nar's new Luminous Foundation is designed for versatility and can be used as a wet or dry powder depending on your desired coverage level. Nars says that applying All-Day Luminous with a dry sponge will result in a "luminous finish" while applying with a wet sponge will yield a "soft matte" finish.
I don't think that the application method has as much to do with the foundation's finish as the amount of product you use. I think Nars is generalizing here and assuming that a wet application will require more product than a dry application (which is probably a safe bet), but Nars is 100% correct in claiming that the heavier the application is, the more matte the finish will be.
The ability to achieve various finishes with one product is likely the result of very very small particles of micro shimmer which are present in All Day Powder Foundation, but are only noticeable with careful scrutiny.
These nano-size pieces of sparkle are easily concealed with a heavier application of the powder because the powder itself, has a true matte finish. If you apply a sheer layer of product on the other hand, the shimmer can go to work and provide you with a soft-focus effect that makes your skin appear flawless. Just be sure to remember that you won't get the full SPF 24 if you don't apply a moderate amount of foundation.
The 12 available shades will suit very fair to deep skintones. In typical Nars fashion, they did an excellent job of sticking to their normal shade range, accommodated multiple undertones, and in an incredible twist for powder foundations: they created 12 shades that retain their color with almost no oxidation- regardless of how much oil they are exposed to, which is quite an infrequent finding in the powder foundation world.
Fallout isn't too bad at all with Nars Luminous and because of the silky smooth texture, it's easy to clean up any fallout you do experience (but it's next to non-existent if you use a sponge and more or less is non-existent if you use a wet sponge.)
I'm not a huge powder foundation person, they just aren't my forte. (I have a tendency to over apply them) but I'm actually really impressed with the performance of Nars new All Day Luminous Powder Foundation.
Considering the shade range, the formula, the adequate sunscreen, the ability to achieve multiple coverage levels and finishes, the long wearing formula, and the fact that Nars All Day Luminous Powder Foundation can easily double as a setting powder; this is one powder foundation that is absolutely a winner.
