Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation, Review & Swatches of Shades

Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation; 15 Hour Formula with SPF 10
Price: $42

CRUELTY FREE!!!

Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Foundation claims to blur imperfections by using special "light diffusing spheres" and providing medium-buildable coverage. Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation also promises to deliver flawless all day wear with a sweat resistent, humidity resistent, transfer proof formula...which happens to be hydrating.
Smashbox is a cosmetics company owned by parent Estee Lauder, alongside sister companies MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Origins, etc. It's no secret that parent & sister companies often exchange base-formulas for various cosmetic products and then each company just puts their own spin on it.

Lauder companies all participated in this activity for their individual lines of BB & CC Creams and the patterns can easily be spotted if you've tried a few or frequently read ingredients.

If you're an analytical foundation shopper, then it should come as no surprise to you that Smashbox 15 hour Studio Skin Foundation is a formula which heavily resembles Mac Pro Longwear Foundation, (a spin-off of Estee Lauder Double Wear.Stay-in-Place Foundation.)

Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Foundation may or may not last 15 hours; it will totally depend on your skin type but neither oily nor dry skin need to worry about setting Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation immediately after application and can certainly wait until the work day is almost over and the "just applied" look starts to fade.

Drier skin is more likely to end up with a "patchy" appearance at the 12 hour mark, although the addition of silica in the Studio Skin formula helps the foundation wear more evenly than Mac Pro Longwear.

Oily-skin may see shine coming through; but that's about the best anyone can hope for with any foundation formulation and these things can be prevented if you know which direction your skin is likely to head.

Oily Skinned folks should obviously add something that's oil-absorbing (though not necessarily powder) when they touch up and dry-skinned folks should do their best to re-hydrate Studio Skin Foundation (or other long-wearing formula) with a moisturizing product.

If you have aging skin, you will certainly want to use a silicone primer that has hydrating properties so that it fills in any fine lines and wrinkles and plumps up your skin, and beware that EVERYONE will need to use an additional source of sun protection with Studio Skin Foundation because SPF 10 isn't going to cut it (even with the medium-full coverage Studio Skin provides.)

The Studio Skin Foundation shade range is decent. It consists of 10 shades and will suit skintones ranging from the lighter end of fair to deep. (Shade #1.2 is actually the lightest shade, NOT shade #1.1.)

Neither Mac nor Estee Lauder claim that their long-wearing foundations are hydrating like Smashbox does, but none the less, Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation is a very decent option for those with normal-oily skin who prefer this type of formula. Until Smashbox pulled out of China, Estee Lauder Double Wear and Mac Pro-Longwear were two foundations that were difficult to find a Cruelty Free Dupe for, so Kudos to Smashbox!
