Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20

(About $20 per ounce)
Tarte's BB Tinted Moisturizer is a great option for those looking for a standard tinted moisturizer, tinted sunscreen, or American BB Cream (which is essentially a tinted moisturizer.) Tarte has combined the best of all worlds (yet again) and created a product that will suit the needs of most people who want to combine makeup and skincare products to save themselves a step.
Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer was originally just Tarte's Tinted Moisturizer before the whole BB craze took over the world. Then, in smart form, Tarte simply made some minor adjustments and re-released their classic tinted moisturizer to meet the demands of their BB loving Tartelettes.
Basically, Tarte added some beneficial ingredients to the formula and they reformulated it so that it's not officially "oil-free." This means that those with dry skin may not get moisturizing benefits like they did before, but those with oily skin or normal skin won't be bombarded with more moisture than their skin can handle either. (A classic sacrifice of the "good of the few" for the "good of the many.")
The finish of Tarte's BB Tinted Moisturizer is actually really refreshing. Instead of a dewy finish that is typically seen with traditional tinted moisturizers and many sunscreen products, the finish is satin. This means that you will get some shimmer and a natural looking "glow" but you're not going to get that same "shiny" look.
Tarte also included their Amazonian Clay in the Tinted BB formula so that will help somewhat in absorbing excess oils but shouldn't be a problem for those with dry skin. *Those with very dry skin should take note though and realize that they may need to wear an additional moisturizer underneath the tinted BB.*
If you're someone who has a favorite foundation and hates having to switch them around seasonally to accommodate your changing skin, Tarte's Tinted BB is a great option for the winter months. For the summer, when you're less dry, you may want to try Tarte's 12 Hour BB Priming Treatment instead.
Alternating between using these two products under your foundation is a great way to help keep your skin balanced year round so that you don't have to go through the hassle of finding a new foundation every 6 months.
Coverage is certainly in the sheer to light range but it's better than 90% of tinted moisturizers (or BB Creams for that matter) that are on the American market today and with the 8 shades available, you're more likely to find a better match which will allow you more room to build coverage as you need it.
The only negative thing to be said about Tarte's Tinted BB, is that when Tarte reformulated their tinted moisturizer, they opted for a see through tube which won't keep any of the beneficial ingredients stable. You can prevent the degrading of these ingredients by keeping the tube in a drawer or simply covering any clear areas with a piece of duct tape. It may not look pretty but if that's important to you it's an easy fix.
Overall, if you're looking for a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream that can provide adequate sun protection, or you want something to wear under your foundation Tarte's Tinted BB Moisturizer is certainly one worth considering.
While the initial investment may seem a little high if you're on a budget, keep in mind that you're getting a lot for your money and the actual cost is under $20 an ounce which really isn't bad.
