MAC Mineralize Moisture Foundation

Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation is a foundation which is part of Mac's "Mineralize" line and was added to Mac's extensive foundation lineup a few years ago. Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation is a very specific type of foundation that was created to suit a very specific type of skin and it does that exceptionally well.
Mac claims that Mineralize Moisture is formulated with their exclusive 77 mineral complex, shea butter, and vitamin E. They say that Mineralize Moisture has a combination of powders that will create an optical blurring effect which virtually diminishes imperfections and fine lines for a more refined, softly-lit-from-within, satin finish appearance.
Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation is a very thin liquid foundation with a fair amount of pigment. It does apply beautifully with a sponge, brush, or fingers, and then it sets (kind of) to a dewy/satin appearance

Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation doesn't have an oily appearance, but it does have a satin one. The "optical-blurring" is two fold; first Mineralize Moisture hydrates and plumps up any fine lines or wrinkles in the skin and then the satin finish reflects light off of the face and takes the attention off of those problem areas. The special blend of powders Mac refers to is a combination of silicones which will smooth skin over so that the any light isn't reflecting back and drawing attention to your biggest woes. For the most part, Mac Mineralize Moisture does all of this beautifully and is a great hydrating foundation with a lightweight texture and silky feel; but there are a few caveats.
Wear time may be a bit of an issue for some people because longevity isn't Mineralize Moisture's strong suit. As a hydrating foundation, it's designed for extremely dry skin. Ideally you want your skin to be dry enough to absorb the foundation's excess shine, but if it's too dry then it may absorb too much of the foundation too soon and then you could lose some valuable coverage. If wear time is important to you, you'll want to play around with the right combination of prepping & setting to see what extends the life of Mineralize Moisture best on your skin. A silicone primer and/or silicone setting powder substitute like Mally Porelesss Face Defender will help dramatically but depending on how dry your skin is, you'll have to make appropriate adjustments and experiment using either of them and/or a setting powder.
If your skin isn't dry enough to handle Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation, you may see it creeping in to fine lines and winkles after a few hours, but again, a silicone primer and/or setting powder will help prevent that.
The shade range of Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation is absolutely brilliant. Mac produced a typical Mac shade line up of 23 shades with are divided between the NW & NC categories, but what's really fabulous is that Mac released NW13 which is an incredibly pale option and because of the hydrating formula, Mineralize Moisture isn't going to oxidize and darken as the day wears and maintains beautiful color purity.
If you have oily skin, Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation likely won't work for you but it's not supposed to work for you! Mac Mineralize Moisture Foundation is a very specific type of foundation that is extremely hydrating and will provide oodles of moisture for those with the ultimate dry-skin-woes, which it does very well!
Nuance by Selma Hayack Flawless Finish Liquid Foundation is a decent Cruelty Free drugstore option to substitute for Mac Mineralize Moisture, but the texture isn't quite as thin!
