Cream concealers (and foundations for that matter) are really hot right now and have all but entirely dissolved any of the negative connotations once associated with similar formulas.
I don't think many would say that Lancome is embarking on a new concept in the concealer world by including a concealer, a corrector, and a setting powder since there are some products made by other companies; (many of which are obvious sources of inspiration for Le Corrector Concealer Professional.) While there are dozens on the market, some examples are Bobbi Brown's Creamy Concealer which is available in a kit with powder, both Laura Mercier's Under Cover Pot (which includes three products; setting powder, Secret Camouflage Corrector and her Secret Concealer) and lastly, my personal favorite concealer "kit"/palette- Mally's Cancellation Concealer.
I personally rarely ever use more than 20% of any setting powder included in a kit, but none the less, I was ecstatic at the prospect of Lancome's newest concealer and I have been waiting anxiously to try it for months! I finally convinced Jimi to spend the day traveling 100 mile round trip just to go and test the Le Corrector Pro Concealer. I'm not sure that I expected it to be anything spectacular, but I'm a sucker for cream concealers so I wanted to give it a go!
Le Corrector Pro Concealer comes in 8 different combinations, and the shades range from Fair-Deep so Lancome did a good job there. They were also thoughtful and included several options for specific undertones with their Warm & Cool options.
Despite Lancome's best efforts, not everyone will find their perfect match here because you now have the challenge of matching two shades instead of one, so if you plan to order sight unseen, you may want to experiment with some other concealer/corrector combinations first so you have an idea of which shades conceal what best on your skin.
Each palette comes with three compartments; you get a corrector, a concealer, and lastly setting powder. Probably due to the confusion of Correctors vs Concealers many people experience, Lancome also included a shade guide which is quite brilliant and suggests precisely where to place each shade in order to conceal your average under eye bags and darkness.The actual texture of the cream components is initially hard, very hard; almost as hard as Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage which (for those who haven't tried it) is so hard its not typically used as an under eye concealer. (Actually, the combinations of shades are surprisingly similar to Secret Camouflage as well.) Lancome's Le Corrector Pro Concealer does soften once you warm it up which was actually surprising given the initial hard wax consistency.
Coverage is good, its not life changing, but its good and pretty much what you'd expect from a formula like this. The included powder is one with an "ever so soft shimmer" which is supposed to help brighten the under eye area, but it must be used with a very light hand or you will look crepey real quick and likely make any woes more noticeable.
My biggest issue with the Le Corrector Pro Concealer Kit is the quantities given for each compartment are totally out of whack. If a Corrector is used correctly, you should need maybe 20% of the quantity you would need for a Concealer (assuming they're the same formula.) When it comes to powder, to include more powder than either the Concealer or Corrector is just absolutely ludicrous and I would probably bet the farm that even those with the oiliest skin in the world wouldn't use up that much powder by the time they used up the Cream products.
It's because of the amount of product given and the price point that I would strongly suggest looking for other options. Bobbi Brown's Creamy Concealer & Corrector may be more expensive if you purchase all three products, but at least there you can customize your concealer & corrector shades and ensure that you have a match so you're more likely to get your money's worth. The best Concealer/Setting Powder combination that I have seen in forever is still Mally Cancellation Concealer, which in addition to being a formula similar (but better) to Lancome's Le Corrector, gives you a very impressive 10 grams of product or something AND (more importantly) is CRUELTY FREE!
