Smashbox CC Cream SPF 30; Review & Swatches of Shades

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream;
(Dark Spot & Color Correcting Cream, SPF 30)
New for Spring 2014
Price $42 per ounce

CRUELTY FREE!!!

Smashbox released their Camera Ready BB Cream quite a while ago with relatively decent success, and they have subsequently ventured into the Color Correcting world of CC Creams with their Camera Ready CC Cream that promises to diminish the look of dark spots.

In a lot of ways, Smashbox's Camera Ready CC Cream (like the Smashbox BB Cream for that matter) is a standard example of what other Lauder companies have put out. All of the options like Clinique Age Defense BB Cream, Bobbi Brown BB Cream, Mac Beauty Balm, and Estee Lauder Daywear BB Cream; are similar to what Smashbox offers here but Smashbox did do a great job with quite a few aspects of their CC cream and Smashbox is one of the few Lauder companies that is Cruelty Free.

Like the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, Smashbox Camera ready CC Cream is available in 8 impressive shades that will suit fair to a deeper tan tone of skin. Smashbox's options also include sufficient SPF (like the other Lauder options), although they may not be the best option for sensitive skin because of their synthetic & chemical components. (Sensitive skin does best with mineral options like titanium Dioxide & zinc oxide and should consider Too Faced's Multi-benefit BB Cream).

The Paula's Choice team describes Smashbox CC Cream as having a semi-matte finish but I think that term can be a little misleading. While Smashbox CC doesn't have a "dewy" finish per say, it does add a hit of sheen like most BBs, CCs & tinted moisturizers will. The extent of this shimmer will obviously depend on your skin type but even those with very dry skin will notice the added "vibrancy" of Smashbox's CC. As for correcting dark spots, Smashbox CC really doesn't have any ingredients in large enough quantities to heavily impact them and any noticeable difference is unlikely.

The best way to think of Smashbox CC Cream, is as a tinted sunscreen because that's really what it is. That's not a bad thing, it's just to help expectations stay reasonable. If you need more than light coverage you will need a foundation over Smashbox CC Cream, and if you have oily skin you will likely need to set it with powder or apply it under a long-wearing, matte finish foundation to control shine.

Smashbox says that if you have oily skin you Won't need a moisturizer and although that holds true you will want to use your serum & skincare regimen (less your moisturizer.)If you already use or have tried Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, you won't need to try the CC too because the formulas are so similar they're nearly impossible to tell apart and your feelings towards one will likely apply to the other, but if you're looking for a Cruelty Free dupe for any Lauder Company BBs, CCs, or Tinted Moisturizers, Smashbox CC or BB Creams are ones to consider!
