Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer
(Includes 1oz foundation, concealer & brush)
Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer Duo has inspired many a competitors to try to copy their success, so are you better off going with the sequel or the original? Keep reading...
For $44 you not only get a richly pigmented & highly concentrated cream foundation which is nearly full coverage and WILL last all day, but you also get a soft cream concealer which is petroleum based (think Bobbi Brown Corrector/Creamy Concealer or Laura Mercier Secret Concealer). To sweeten the deal, Stila also includes their foundation brush making this a budget shopper's dream, despite the moderate initial investment!
Available 16 well selected shades which suit fair-deep skintones, Stila is sure to have a match for you. Unlike many foundation/concealer duos which are paired with a poor match, Stila also did a great job matching foundations to concealers. while they may look identical to one another below, keep in mind these are wet swatches and the foundation will dry & darken ever so slightly, whereas the concealer will remain true to its color, making it a hair lighter and brighter than its foundation pairing, which is precisely what you want when matching foundations & concealers!
What you DO want to consider, is application. (The smart part is that Stila included a spatula to help dispense the thicker formula and prevent bacteria breeding/contamination). Keep in mind the foundation is a thicker* than typical formula of a long lasting silicone based foundation. (Dry skinned people will want to moisturizer before using the foundation.) Those with oily skin will rejoice at the formulation of the foundation and will be good to go.
(*Thicker=more concentrated=less diluted=more pigment=greater bang for your buck!)
The concealer on the other hand, is going to suit those with dry skin famously (it IS sold separately if the foundation is too drying), so I would say that oily skin girls should definitely apply the concealer AFTER the foundation & lightly set with powder. (Just dab, don't rub concealer on and make sure foundation has set completely.)
Dry skinned girls can actually apply the concealer under foundation as a moisturizing base, or over foundation to re hydrate it (again AFTER foundation has set!)
Normal skinned people, play around and see what works for you!
I have normal/slightly dry skin and I am a HUGE proponent of mixing concealer/foundation formulations. too much of one formula is never good so if I use an emollient foundation, ill use a long lasting concealer over it and if I use a long lasting foundation, ill use an emollient concealer.m this serves a dual purpose and reduces my need for powder.
If I apply a long-lasting concealer under my eyes over an emollient foundation, the concealer will help to set the foundation under my eyes and keep it in place. If I've used a long-lasting foundation, to prevent dryness under my eyes, I will apply an emollient concealer. Which combination I use is determined by my mood, my skin, the weather, etc, and mixing formulas will work with most people in the normal range. VERY oily/breakout prone skin may need to strictly use all long-lasting products and VERY dry skin may only tolerate emollient products, but those extreme cases are very rare.
Stila has obviously given a lot of thought to which products work best with what and they deserve major kudos for that and the fact that they're cruelty free! This is definitely one to consider and again, its only $15 each for the brush, foundation & concealer, so you're really getting your money's worth!
